The seafront, hands-down. Eastbourne’s classic pebble beach has been voted into the UK’s top ten list and boasts a Blue Flag Clean Sea Award. It’s perfect for games of Ultimate Frisbee or beach volleyball! And when you’re topping up your tan, lying on tiny pebbles is like getting a mini-massage at the same time! Windsurfing is a major water sport here. But sailing and boating are probably just as popular. In fact, Eastbourne’s marina is one of the largest in the UK. (Don’t miss EF’s boat trip out to Beachy Head, by the way. It’s a great way to view the area’s soaring chalk cliffs and historic lighthouse.) The marina is also full of cozy cafes with great views of the harbor—a favorite hangout of EFers after class. During August, the seafront is an ideal spot for watching the Eastbourne International Airshow. Grab a picnic, lay a blanket and enjoy spectacular displays from the Royal Air Force, US Air Force and the famous Red Arrow flying team! Did we mention shopping? Look for high street brands at the Eastbourne Arndale Centre and Terminus Road. For more quirky independent fashions, check out the recently rejuvenated Seaside Road. Little Chelsea offers quaint old-style souvenir shops and the boutiques of Enterprise Centre are housed within a restored Victorian railway building

Eastbourne’s Global Village has been welcoming international students for three decades now, and is one of largest and most multicultural centers. Many of our families have been hosting EF students for generations. Your teachers will activate your English lessons with study visits to fascinating places like the Towner Art Gallery, an 18th-century manor housing over 4,000 works of art; the Lifeboat Museum, chronicling the history of sea rescue since the mid-1800s; and the Magistrate Court, where you can learn about British law and watch real court cases in session. We’ll also fill your free time with beach volleyball matches, the EF World Cup international soccer tournament, and our own Loony Lympics (be prepared to get a little silly, messy and wet!). At night, head for the EF Disco, spinning the summer’s hottest dance hits four times a week.
